Why is Thrive needed?

Potential to Fruition is a programme for people to
explore how to start a social enterprise or for-purpose
business designed to improve their community. The
programme is running for four months in 2016 with an
expo at its conclusion.

At the conclusion, they will come out with:

face social and economic challenges and the
Manawat, Horowhenua and Tararua districts are
no different. However, this area is also home to
passionate and active communities who deeply
understand the challenges and opportunities
in the region. Who better than locals to start
enterprises that solve a social or environmental
problem facing their community, leading to
sustainable and prosperous communities?

Skills and confidence to take their idea for


a social enterprise to the next stage, and

Thrive is for anyone who is active in their


community and is prepared to lead positive and
lasting change. The ideal participant is driven by a
social or environmental purpose and wants to use
business to achieve this goal. They are people who
want to lead positive and lasting change.

Local business leaders who wish to leverage


skills and experience for social purpose
businesses

Learning and development


to support action

Individuals who care about the Manawat,


Tararua and Horowhenua districts and want to
gain skills to lead the creation of community
social enterprise.

Participants are not simply sitting through


workshops over the four months. They are
taking charge of their own learning and are being
challenged to take the first steps on creating their
own enterprise.

A support network that believes in them


and their idea and can help them to achieve
their goals.

Who is taking part?

Thrive participants care deeply about whnau,


hap and iwi and want to make positive and
lasting change. They include:

Community leaders and individuals who


want to harness business to achieve positive
outcomes for whnau, hap and iwi, and

Their interests span:


The arts
Youth
Health, fitness and wellbeing, and
Employment and economic development.

It has been specially designed for Manawat,


Horowhenua and Tararua communities and is a
partnership between the kina Foundation and Te Tihi o
Ruahine Whnua Ora Alliance, a Whnau Ora alliance of
eight iwi, hap and Mori organisations. kina is leading
the programme design and is co-facilitating workshops
alongside Te Tihi.

NewZealand Post and Kiwibank are supporting kina to expand


its efforts to build social enterprise capability across the regions,
which includes the development of a national network of social
enterprise hubs. Thrive is part of kinas Hubs programme.
