Asa retired, but active, pastor at Federated Church in Placerville, | have
interacted with Olivea through youth group activities, mission trips, and
numerous individual interactions.
Olivea's participation in church activities has been self-initiated and consistently
sustained without much parental or family support. This is conspicuous and
unusual. As a child it meant walking from home to church.
Olivea’s personality is open, outgoing, friendly and engaging. What impressed me
at an early stage was her ease in relating to adults. She learned names, asked
questions, made friends and looked out for herself . .. and for others. She does
not gossip or bad-mouth others.
For the past few years she has been very involved in theater at her high school.
Dramatic productions are very time intensive at El Dorado High School. This has
meant juggling school assignments, part-time work, church youth group activities
and leadership in school clubs. She is self-motivated in these things, getting
herself places on-time, finishing assignments on time while maintaining a positive
attitude and getting good grades. | cannot stress enough that she accomplishes
these things of her own volition and without much parental support.
Olivea understands children. She is in demand as a babysitter in homes and at
church because she plans activities for children in her care ~ keeping them happy
and interested. She would make a great teacher!Olivea sang in our church children’s or youth choirs for eight years, During that
time she taught herself to play both piano and ukulele. She enjoys backpacking.
‘and working at the farm connected with her high school environmental science
class. It was her idea to plant a bee friendly garden at our church; this inspired
the youth group to plant pollinator friendly flowers in the church grounds. She is
currently studying solar panels for her senior science project.
lam confident that Olivea will handle the independence of college life well and
will flourish in a college environment. She will always be a contributor and
college will lead her into the wider world where she can make the most of her
abundant talents.
Very sincerely,
Mi le
