Constructive Confrontation Tips


1. Tell the associate you are concerned about his/her performance
2. State the problem
a. Specific observations of behavior/events (not opinions or conclusions)
b. Refer to documentation of specific events
c. Avoid generalizations
3. Ask for an explanation for the behavior/conduct
4. Avoid getting involved in a discussion of personal problems; stick to work
behavior/conduct
5. Try to get the associate to acknowledge what you see as the problem
6. State what must be done to correct the problem
7. Set a time frame for performance improvement
8. Specify consequences if problem continues
9. Confirm understanding
10.Set regular follow-up/check-in times if applicable
