SecondGreatAwakening:
Inthe

Early1800s,
andinfluencedbyCharlesGrandisonFinney.It
wasareligiousmovementthathelpmovethe
societyintobelievinginManifestDestinyand
expandingthecolonies.Alsobeganmanyreforms
liketheWomensmovementandTemperance.

Protestant:
NotsubjecttoPapalrule,youhave
manypastorsandclergymen.Protestantsbelieve
inwhatCatholicsbelieveinbuttheProtestant
FaithcameinprotestoftheCatholicfaithbeing
socontrollingandProtestantsbelievedin
separationofchurchandstateandcatholicismdid
not.

Catholic:
SubjecttothePope,aselectedmanand
selectedclergy.Catholicismistherulingbodyof
thechurchandstate,allsinsaredefinedbythe
popeandplayedoutbythepope.Godspeaks
throughthepopewheraswithProtestantismGod
speaksthroughtheindividual.

Slavery:
Theownershipofapersonasproperty,
tobeowned,boughtorsold.Aslavehasnorights
andissubjecttowhateveritsmasterhastoldthem
todo.Themastermakesprofitoffoftheslave
withtheslavenotreceivinganybenefits.

Indenturedservitude:
Laborsysteminwhich
peoplepaidofftheirdebttocometotheNew
Worldthroughwork.Afterasetnumberofyears
theyweresetfreeandgivensomeamountofland
andmoney.

ReligiousTolerance:
Theabilityforagroupof
peopletoacceptanothergroupofpeoples
religiousbeliefswithoutchastisingthem.

ReligiousIntolerance:
Theinabilitytoaccept
someoneelsesbeliefs.Tochastiseandhurt
someoneforwhattheybelieve.
