Battle of Lexington & Concord

What happened during the battle of Lexington?

The battle of Lexington occurred in Lexington, Massachusetts on April 19, 1775. There
had been growing tensions between the Colonists and the British. The British where planning a
march to Lexington to capture Colonial leaders Sam Adams and John Hancock. Paul Revere
through in enough time alarmed the countryside that the British were coming and to prepare.
Minutemen or Militiamen were a group of volunteer men that were ready to help the colonists in
a minutes notice. Major John Buttrick, in the militia, gave the order for the militiamen or
minutemen to fire on the British.(This was the first time that the colonist had ever fired on the
British). To the next man in line who helped at Lexington was John Parker he helped lead the
militiamen or minutemen like Major John Buttrick. As soon as the British arrived the colonist
notice that they are out numbered. There was a silence for awhile then, no one knows witch side
fired first, but then there was open fire. Out numbered the colonist loose. Still this battle has a
significance for it was the first battle of the War of Independence and the kick off for the War of
Independence. The shot fired at Lexington was know as The Shot Heard Around the World.
