Caucus Meeting
I had the opportunity to attend my first Caucus Meeting for the Layton
precinct 26 today. The meeting I assume was standard though there seemed
to be more in attendance than expected. The man who lead the meeting,
Kim Levitt, had been involved in the caucus for a couple years but he
seemed to have a difficulty leading a group as large as ours. I overheard
others say that 4 years before they only had 20 people at the meeting, but
today there had to be over 100 in participation. Word had spread as leaders
of the local Mormon church had urged all members to be in attendance and
had cancelled all church meetings for the day of the caucus.
First there was nominations to for precinct chair and again Kim Levitt
was nominated without opposition as nobody seemed to want to do that
particular job. Ron Wendal was nominated Vice Chair and he was the only
soul kind enough not to refuse. Nancy Treasure was nominated as secretary
but wasnt in attendance to deny nomination so she got stuck with that
responsibility as she was seeing to helping those just arriving to receive
wristbands for the evening presidential vote.
After that particular event nominations were takin for County
Delagates to help us decide on Davis county commissioners. Davis county is
apparently in need of a new commissioner and some in attendance wanted a

strong delegate to choose for them but others wanted the peoples input.
There was quite the debate on what should be done and though the words
trustee came to my mind many times it was never particularly mentioned.
We ended up taking a vote down for both the county delegates and state
delegate and each nominee was given a few minutes to introduce
themselves and share their political Ideals before the vote was takin down on
papers. The delegates were not announced by the end so the verdict is still
out on who they will be but the majority of county delegate nominees
wanted to find a commissioner to help with the financial deficit and most of
the state delate nominees were inclined to vote for Ted Cruz so as to stop
Donald Trump from winning majority of votes and making it possible for
anybody but Donald Trump to win the final election. Even one Delegate
nominee begged the audience to vote Cruz just to save us all from Trump. It
was quite moving if I do say so myself.
