There are three (3) executable (.

exe) files included on this CD, as shown below:

Poclain motor Function.exe

CLOOSED-LOOP-2s peed.exe

Freewheeling Function.exe

The simulations of hydraulic rotary piston motor operation created by these files are the
property of Poclain and are included with their permission.
The simulations contained in these files can be used to help students understand the
operation of the hydraulic rotary piston motor. The simulations are nearly selfexplanatory, with control buttons similar to VCR (video cassette recorder) control buttons
included.
Note that the simulations use slightly different color schemes to depict oil pressures, and
also be aware that this is NOT exactly the way the motor used in the all wheel drive
functions. In the simulations the cylinder block rotates inside a fixed cam ring in the all
wheel drive motors the cylinder block is fixed, and the pistons drive the cam ring.
The first simulation (Poclain motor Function.exe) contains an overview of the motors
components and operation. Double-click the file to launch the program, then click on the
blue oval with the arrow inside to begin the simulation. The simulation will construct a
rotary piston motor, then ask a question and wait for the user to select a response. Once a
correct response is provided, the motor will operate.
The second simulation (CLOOSED-LOOP-2speed.exe) provides a comprehensive
depiction of the operation of the hydraulic rotary piston motor, in two speeds and both
forward and reverse directions. Double-click the file to launch the program, and the
simulation will run. Click on the turtle or rabbit buttons to change motor speeds, and
click on the selector lever to change directions. Note particularly the action of the
displacement spool, and the volume of oil driving the motor, when speed changes from
low speed / high torque to high speed / low torque.
The third simulation (Freewheeling Function.exe) shows how a slight vacuum or
reduced oil pressure to the pistons retracts them from the cam ring for freewheel
operation. It then shows how charge pressure causes the pistons to contact the cam ring
without driving the system. Finally, the simulation demonstrates how drive pressure oil
causes the motors pistons to create rotary motion.
The three simulations will complement the information in the systems operation manual
and the slideshow to help students envision how the hydraulic rotary piston motor
functions.
