    Laurahasbeenanoutstandingadditiontoourclassthisyear,andherstudentswillmissher
    enthusiasm,warmth,andexperience.Fromearlyintheyear,studentsgravitatedtoLaurafor
    bothherexpertiseasawritingcoachandhercaringdemeanor.Inhertimewithusthisyear,
    Mrs.Allenhasdemonstratedanddevelopedawiderangeofcompetenciesasateacherof
    languagearts.Shewillbeanassettowhateverschooldistrictisfortunateenoughtohireher.

    Laurashowsaknackforempoweringstudentvoicebymakingthecontentrelevanttostudents.
    Inparticular,shetookaunitinwhichsheneededtoteachtwoancientGreektextsSophocless
    OedipustheKing
    andPlatos
    Apology
    anduseditasaspringboardintoadiscussionof
    personalidentity,settingthestageforstudentblogpostsonthetopic.Thisemphasiscontinued
    throughaunitonRomanticism,culminatinginaPassionPoeminwhichstudentscomposed
    personalpoemsusingpoetictechniquestoconveymeaning.Ineachoftheseinstances,Mrs.
    Allendemonstratedauniqueabilitytobuildrelevanceforstudents,evenwhenusingtextsthat
    arenotalwaysimmediatelyinteresting.

    Inadditiontothoughtfullydevelopingcreativeunitplansandlessons,LauraAllenearnsher
    studentsrespectandparticipationthroughherwillingnesstobeseenasarealperson.Before
    askingstudentstoattempttheaforementionedassignments,shecompletedthemherself,showing
    agenerosityofspiritthatempoweredstudentstoriskbeingvulnerableinfrontoftheirpeers.As
    aresult,theseassignmentsprovidedararecombinationofmeaningfulselfexpressionand
    academiclearning.Mrs.Allenneverassumesthatawelldesignedlessonisnecessarilyenough
    instead,sheseespersonalrelationshipsasthe
    sinequanon
    ofstudentengagementandgrowth.
    Onanygivenday,Lauracanbefoundsittingatatableconversing,working,andlaughingwith
    individualstudents.Understandingtheimportanceofacknowledgingstudentsuccesstobuilding
    apositiveclassroomculture,sheregularlynominatesstudentsforourschoolsStudentofthe
    Monthaward.WithLaura,ImremindedofthesayingStudentsdon'tcarehowmuchyou
    knowuntiltheyknowhowmuchyoucare.


    IhavenoreservationsinrecommendingMrs.LauraAllenasanexcellentadditiontoyour
