Justification

According to Plato, Music gives a soul to the Universe, wings to the mind, flight to the
imagination and life to everything. It is true as songs will be able to give life to the lessons
carried out by teachers in schools. Learning through songs fascinates pupils and they tend to
learn in an entertaining way which helps them to recollect the lessons learnt. The song that is
chosen is banana song. It is an action song which is adapted to Malaysian local fruits. The
genre of the song is a pop song. It is suitable to be taught to Year 3 pupils of intermediate
proficiency level. The words that are used in the lyrics are simple and quite direct. Year 3 pupils
can easily understand and try to make sense out of it.

Knowledge.
It is a topic that is close to every childs heart and they learn new vocabulary that
describes local fruits. It helps to widen their vocabulary as there are many high frequency words
used in the song. The catchy beat and rhythm attracts the pupils attention for a longer period of
time compared to a normal class lessons. Since it is an action song, pupils can learn the fruits
and with the actions, the can retain the information in their memory well. The pupils will be able
to learn the song fast and sing along since the words used are related to their real lives.
Firstly, the content of the song is very suitable for pupils as it uses high frequency words
which are commonly used in daily conversations. Words such as peel, eat, chuck, mix and
many more are used in the song. Repetition can be extremely helpful in the learning patterns of
a certain language. The song contains many repeated lines. Repetition of sentences in the
song will help the pupils to identify the right sentence structure to be used subconsciously. They
learn how to construct correct and simple sentences indirectly. For example, Peel ______, eat
______, and mix _______. The sentence is repeated while replacing the last word with the
name of the local fruits that are listed.
The song may be culturally suitable as the song is about local fruits which the pupils
would have seen or eaten. They are familiar with the fruits that is used in the song. It is a real
experience and makes sense to young learners as they have the memory of the local fruits.
They are able to learn and correlate the knowledge gained through the song to their lives
In conclusion, the song is suitable to be used as a material or a text for Year 2 pupils of
intermediate level of proficiency.
