Reflection
In my opinion, I certainly prefer the traditional oral story telling.
There are many benefits of using the traditional oral story telling instead
digital story telling. One of it is oral story telling enables the teacher to
vary the volume, pitch and tempo of their voice according to the story
that they have chosen. This will certainly grab the pupils attention and
they will be interested to listen on to the story telling. Other than that,
oral story telling allows the teacher to use their face, body and gestures.
It allows the teacher to speak through their body as well as their voice.
Pupils will not be bored as they will be watching the teachers body
movement as well as listening to the story telling. Body movement and
gestures can also convey the meaning of certain words more meaningfully
which can help the pupils to understand the story more easily.
Next, oral story telling can help the teacher to maintain engaging
eye contact with the audience. Eye contact between the teacher and
pupils is very important during story telling. The pupils will be more
focused and listen to the story attentively when there is an eye contact
between the teacher and them. The teacher can also know whether the
pupils are concentrating or not. Oral story telling also creates a
charismatic presence. It makes the audience believe in you. The teacher
can convey the story using many techniques in order for the story to be
believable to the pupils.
Another advantage of using oral story telling instead of digital story
telling is that the teacher can use silences and pauses to add dramatic
effect. During storytelling, the teacher can pause in order to give
suspense to the pupils. The pupils will be anticipating what will happen
next. Oral storytelling allows the teacher to use different, exaggerated
character voices. The pupils will certainly enjoy it when the teacher uses
different voices.
Lastly, oral storytelling enables the teacher to tell the story in their own
words. The teacher can use simple words that are easy for the pupils to

understand. The pupils will also be attracted to the storytelling if the

teacher uses words that are understandable by them. The teacher can
also create their own version of their story through adaption and
improvising to suit the needs of the pupils.
