ABOUT Us
The Barbados Association of Texas (BAT), formerly Barbados Association of Greater Houston was founded in
1992. We are active in several community organizations. Our members donate hundreds of hours of volunteer service in
assisting the hungry, elderly, disadvantaged, and youth, in our area, as well as abroad. The membership is currently
comprised of mostly first generation Barbadians and others by decent; however, we are open to anyone as we seek a
diverse cultural membership.
Our organization is committed to excellence in education and continued cultural exchange within the Southwest Region of
the United States.
We offer numerous opportunities for participation in meetings, activities planning, research, professional development,
workshops, and collaborative projects. Opportunities are available to our members for promoting their interests, meeting
and interacting with community leaders, and government entities.
Our goal is to help affect positive change in our local communities, in addition to our Island home. We are active in
charity fundraising events, disaster relief initiatives, community awareness campaigns, festivals, parades and various other
cultural activities.
Every year, we put together a calendar of events which help to fund our mission objectives. Such events include, the Taste
of Barbados, Family Day at the Theater, Bajan Men Can Cook, Tropical Explosion Boat Ride, and many other activities
which eventually culminate with the Annual Barbados Independence and Scholarship Awards Gala in mid November.
Through membership, one is able to gain a sense of community, and lifelong friendships are forged.
