Academy

The Edinburg Academy (E.A.) is located at


1301 E Schunior St, Edinburg, TX 78541
directly adjacent to Edinburg CISD Police
Department.

There are thirteen classrooms located on this campus with


additional classrooms located at the Juvenile Detention Center.
Onsite enrollment is varying anywhere from 80-150 students at
any given time. Most classes are able to accommodate up to 20
students with one teacher. There are five teachers servicing
middle school students, and seven teachers servicing high
school students in addition to our two special education
teachers. Several paraprofessionals are available and assigned
to work with our special needs students in the Discovery
program and/or in the classrooms. We service students who
have demonstrated a history of disruptive behavior, have been

We offer the core classes of English/Language Arts, Science,


Mathematics and History, and PLATO online credit recovery
program. E.A. serves students in grades 6-12 for the minimum
period of time required to achieve compliance with the Code of
Student Conduct. Students are provided skills to become
successful and return to their home campus prepared to learn
and comply with school and district rules. Prior to the end of
students completeion of assigned days, students are reviewed
individually, and on multiple occasions, to determine their
eligibility for transition to their home school. Students failing to
meet any of the transition requirements will remain at EA until
such time as the requirements are met. E.A. looks forward to
assisting its students in becoming successful and productive
members of society.

Within the last two years, Edinburg Academy has made some changes that
have have a positive effect on teachers and students alike. They have
adopted their own mascot, the white bengal tiger. They created a
basketball team and were allowed to compete against other schools. This
year, and the year prior, they worked hard to become district champs. In
order for these boys to play, they had to follow the no pass no play rule.
A couple of teachers started a chess club and taught students to play
chess and competed in chess tournaments.
Every week, teachers choose a student of the week where they proudly
take home a certificate in their honor. Students are experiencing success

Special Programs
The school has a social worker on
campus Mondays, Wednesdays, and
every other Friday. She addresses a
variety of issues including family
matters and substance abuse.
We work closely with several mental
health and substance abuse
institutions in an endeavor to help
students that have issues.
