Top Nursing Priorities and Interventions


o Monitor for respiratory distress.
-Assess O2 saturation and respiratory rate as
ordered or as needed
-Observe for difficulty breathing such as SOB
or use of accessory muscles, retractions,
observe for ability to cough effectively,
cyanosis
-Maintain a patent airway, elevate HOB as
needed
o Prevent spread of infection
-Use appropriate PPE
-Proper handwashing
-Ensure visitors are properly washing hands
and using PPE
o Provide and support adequate nutrition and
encourage fluid intake
-Depending on age, encourage fluids
according to daily requirement.
-Depending on age offer choices of fluid or
foods
-Encourage formula or breast feeding
