Chasing, Fleeing and Dodging Lesson Outline


0-2 Minutes

Home base explanation and ready positions


Intro class to chasing, fleeing and dodging

2-7 Minutes

Pre Control Activity Secret Agent Escape (fleeing to dodge)


o Boundaries- Basketball court
o Equipment- Poly spots (enough to scatter around the entire court)
o Have kids spread out across the court. They must maneuver their way
around the court without stepping on or obstructing any of the
obstacles. Start with a walk, then move to a skip, then move to a jog
o SAFETY/ CUES- Be sure to have the kids keep their heads up to avoid
collisions. Have them be aware of general and personal space

7-12 Minutes

Control Activity - Dodging to a Signal


o Boundaries- Basketball court
o Equipment- Whistle
o Have kids move about in the basketball court. Start at a walk then
progress upwards. At the sound of the whistle, students must conduct
a fake/ juke/ or a dodge. To make harder, have students change how
they move, or when they conduct their dodges on their own.
o SAFETY/ CUES- Head up to avoid collision, aware of personal/general
space, accuracy of juke (lean one way, go another)

12-18 Minutes

Utilization Activity Wheres Waldo (Chasing in a Mass)


Assessment Activity!!!
o Boundaries- Basketball court
o Equipment- none
o Have kids get into pairs. One is going to be the fleer, one the chaser.
The chaser starts on the base line of the basketball court. The fleers
start on the opposite side of the basketball court, scattered around the
opposing half. On the signal, the chasers must tag their fleeing (fin
their Waldo) partner who is making their way through the crowd. After
three minutes, change who is fleeing and who is dodging.

SAFETY/ CUES- Head up, uses jukes effectively, changes speed, open
space

18-23 Minutes

Proficiency Activity Keep Away


o Boundaries- two groups on either half of the basketball court
o Equipment- Soccer balls (or balls in general)
o Split class into four equal, or about equal, groups. The two teams are
working on keeping possession of their ball and passing it amongst
each other.
o SAFETY/ CUES- Head up, juke, keep body between the ball and the
opponent, change of speed, watch hips to anticipate movement.
