Dear Ms. March,
I am writing to suggest a feature story concerning the unemployment rate of recent
graduates and a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill alumna who beat the odds
and was hired by a public relations agency due to her experience while an
undergraduate student.
Even though the job market is still feeling the backlash from The Great Recession, the
unemployment rate of young college graduates has decreased to 7.2 percent, according
to The Economic Policy. This year employers plan to hire 11 percent more new college graduates from
the Class of 2016 than they did from the Class of 2015, according to results of NACE's Job Outlook 2016
survey. In addition, 42 percent of employers who participated in the survey classified the Class of 2016 as very
good or excellent.
Payton Collier, a recent graduate, was offered a job with Capstrat upon graduation.
Capstrat is one of the top PR agencies in the area and in very well-known and respected
amongst journalism school students. During her junior year, Collier joined the Bateman
Case Study Competition which she said gave her real-world experience that research
indicates employers want. After gaining knowledgeable experience from the competition,
Collier led UNCs chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America as president
during her senior year.
Collier is available to discuss her success story in great detail. You may contact her via
phone at 999-999-9999. In addition, Abe Lincoln, the Public Relations Advisor, can
provide additional information on the Public Relations Specialization.
I will call next week to follow up and see if I can help any further. In the meantime, if you
have any questions my e-mail address is estegall@live.unc.edu and my phone number is
(704) 771-6955. Thank you very much for your interest and time.
Sincerely,
