Language Arts Reflection

I plan on making sure all my students needs are met in my classroom. For example in an elementary
classroom, I would need to teach literature, informational texts, print concepts, phonological awareness,
phonics and word recognition, fluency, Knowledge of language and vocabulary. Additionally, I plan on
teaching how to read for pleasure based on the topics my students like in order to get them to read and enjoy
it.
The courses that have prepared me to teach about writing, literature and poems are English 305, 308
and 487. In my English 305 class, my professor assigned many short stories and poems and we had to
analytically digest the information we read about. For my English 305, the professor made us give various
prompts that we the students had to learn how to critically analyze how to incorporate them into a structured
essay using sources and evidence from the text. I plan on teaching students how to support textual evidence
from the text.
The areas in which I feel well prepared in English Language Arts/ Literature because I understand the
subject and enjoy it the most. I love writing and critically analyzing stories, poems and plays.
The areas I feel less prepared in are reading and digesting the science and math subjects. For
example, citing specific of science and technical texts. The artifacts that I plan on sharing on this area for my
portfolio are the essays I wrote in English 305 ad my childrens literature class. Also, another essay we wrote
about talking animals making a comparison to pieces of literature that can positively affect children in their
learning
The work samples express my knowledge in English Language arts and literacy because I have read
and analyzed academic works and have incorporated the information onto my essays. The work samples
connect to my personal experiences in the teaching and learning of English Language Arts and Literacy. One
of my most favorite subjects in college has been my English classes because I recall most of the information
and love writing about it in my own words.
