Independent practice worksheets from textbook

Procedure with Amount of Time Stated for Each Activity:

Instruction
The teacher will hand out an ice cream scoop number words resource for students to use. The teacher will instruct
the students to turn to page 529 in their textbooks, apply their knowledge of place values and base 10 strategies to
solve the problem, and then move to the front of the room. The students will watch a brief Pearson video showing
how the digits and their place values can categorize 3-digit numbers. The teacher will then complete a guided
practice problem on page 530. (10 minutes)
The teacher will check for understanding using the thumbs up/thumbs down method and instruct the students to
return to their seats and complete pages 525 and 526 independently. Any students struggling with the concept will
join the teacher for small group instruction as a way to reinforce the content. The independent practice pages will
be submitted to the teacher for review. (20 30 minutes)
If students appear to master the concept fairly quickly, teacher will move on to instruct students on how to write
and read 3-digit numbers. Students will engage in a partner activity called Roll it-Make it-Expand it where they
will roll 3 dice and fill out a partner worksheet according to the instructions (write the 3 digit number, draw models,
and write it in expanded form).
As students complete their independent practice, they will proceed to assigned math stations by groups. (10 15
minutes)
