Essay
a. An American photographer visiting the Banaue Rice Terraces was
fascinated by the culture of the native people. He got his camera and
began taking pictures of the natives, some of whom only wore native
skirts and necklaces with breasts and sometimes buttocks exposed.
He then published said photos in a calendar as artistic shots and sold
them. He was later sued by concerned citizens saying the pictures in the
calendar are pornographic and offensive.
Should the photographer be penalized? Why or why not?
b. Deny is a famous artist well known for various sculptures in the
international and local art scenes. He was commissioned to design a
sculpture in the image and likeness of the Virgin Mary to be displayed in
front of the Manila Cathedral.
During the unveiling of the sculpture, the crowd was aghast when the
likeness of the Virgin Mary was without any clothes and her sensitive
areas being covered by mere laces and innocent clouds.
