111.26. Grade 6 (b) (6) Expressions, equations, and relationships. The student applies mathematical process standards to use multiple
representations to describe algebraic relationships. The student is expected to: (B) write an equation that represents the relationship between
independent and dependent quantities from a table; and (C) represent a given situation using verbal descriptions, tables, graphs, and equations in the
form y = kx or y = x + b. (http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/rules/tac/chapter111/ch111b.html)
Description/Research
A graphic organizer used to help students represent knowledge on a content area. Start with a main idea or concept. Then, branch out to show how that
main idea can be broken down into specific areas of content.
To Use:
1. Introduce the word and map to the students. 2. Begin modeling the map by placing the target word in the central box. 3. Encourage students to
suggest words, phrases, synonyms, antonyms, and pictures to put in the other boxes. 4. Model how to write a definition using the map as a guide.
