EDU 412 – Disciplinary Literacy Lesson Segment Learning Targets Checkpoint

Context for Learning and Unit Overview

Your grade level must be between 6-12 and be appropriate for your content major (math, science, social studies, or English). Choose one class
(or period) to consider for this project. In the box below, describe your grade level and content area / course:

Grade Level: 6

Name of the Course Math

/ Content Area: Reason about and solve one variable equations and inequalities

Essential Question (this will eventually go on all three of your lesson plans)
Will students be able to reason and solve one variable equations and inequalities?

Standards for your unit

In the box below, copy and paste a few standards that represent the content and skills students will be working on during your unit.
Remember that your standard should align with your SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT, so you may need to think about that first.
(https://dpi.wi.gov/standards). Make sure the number and description of the standard are below. If you would like to use more than one
standard, make sure you are able link your assessments to both standards, appropriately.
M.6.EE.B.5 Understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question: Which values from a specified set, if any, make
the equation or inequality true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation or inequality
true.
M.6.EE.B.6 Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a real-world or mathematical problem; understand that a
variable can represent an unknown number or depending on the purpose at hand, any number in a specified set.
M.6.EE.B.7 Solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x + p = q and px = q for cases in which p,
q, and x are all nonnegative rational numbers.
M.6.EE.B.8 Write an inequality of the form x > c or x < c to represent a constraint or condition in a real-world or mathematical problem.
Recognize that inequalities of the form x > c or x < c have infinitely many solutions; represent solutions of such inequalities on number line
diagrams.
M.6.EE.C.9 Use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another; write an equation to
express one quantity, thought of as the dependent variable, in terms of the other quantity, thought of as the independent variable. Analyze
the relationship between the dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables, and relate these to the equation

Learning Target. Choose three sequential lessons within your unit. Write three learning targets for your lesson sequence (one for each lesson).
Write learning targets that increase in cognitive sophistication. Make sure your three lessons move up at least one level of Bloom’s taxonomy. It

is essential that the three lessons BUILD ON ONE ANOTHER, developing toward mastery of the standard. Remember to use a VERB and an
appropriate NOUN.
