The document discusses three threatened or endangered mammal species in Iowa and the primary threats harming their populations: the Indiana bat faces loss of large trees from timber harvests and storms as well as pesticide poisoning from feeding on insects near fields; the spotted skunk has declined as old barns and corn cribs used for dens have been removed; and the southern flying squirrel depends on mature trees and fallen logs for food and habitat that are being removed through timber harvesting and clean up.

Endangered Mammals Indiana Bat Whats Harming them:
Loss of large trees to timber harvests,
storm damage
These bats are very colonial. So if
something happens to a place where they stay several bats are harmed. Pesticide use. They feed on insect around fields. So if the insects have it they have it.
Spotted Skunk Whats Harming them:
Spotted skunks were widely distributed
throughout the state until 20-30 years ago. Since that time populations have declined. Spotted Skunks were attracted to old barns and corn cribs for artificial dens and an abundance of rodents; many of these buildings have been removed or are no longer being maintained.
