Task 1

Task 1. Mathematics in the School & My Classroom.

o Examine the table of contents for the math textbook used at your Teaching Practice
Placement.
Table of contents for the math textbook

Timing
Subtraction of two digit
Digit to 1000
Measurement
Geometry and fractions
The concept of multiplication

o How does the content align with the CCSS for your grade level?

The content of the math curriculum follows the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The
lessons are appropriate for their grade as they are in grade 2. The contents are timing,
subtraction of two digits, the number to 100, measurement, geometry and fractions and the
concept of multiplication.
In grades K to five, the standards consist of whole numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication,
division, fractions, and decimals.
The Common Core State Standards for Math start with eight Standards for Mathematical
Practice. These standards represent ways in which students should engage with the content,
processes, and skills of longstanding importance in mathematics.
The standards for mathematical content describe what learners must understand and be able to do
in mathematics. ("What Teachers Need to Know About the Common Core State Standards",
2016).

For kindergarten through grade 8, there are grade-specific standards. Each contains many areas
including the following:

Counting and Cardinality

Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Number and Operations in Base Ten
Fractions
Ratios and Proportional Reasoning
The Number System
Expressions and Equations
Functions
Measurement and Data
Geometry
Statistics and Probability

portfolio.

MST Lesson plans

o How does she write plans for the week?

o For the semester?
In general, My MST wrote her lesson plans daily. Moreover, she wrote her lesson plans briefly
that contains the main activities, main objectives of that lesson, strategies and the materials.
When I asked her about the reason of not doing the plan with the details, she told me that she has
15 years experienced in the same curriculum, so shes doing well with the briefly lesson plan. In
addition, each week she taught four lesson and on Thursday, she do a review of the previous
lesson. For this semester, they have to finish four units. Each semester they take approximately
four units.
