Benchmark and Charted Hours

Project Benchmark

Along with a copy of your current verification hours with the supervisors initials (a copy can be
found in the verification assignment), answer the following questions on a separate paper
(typed).
Yes-- Given that you are past the half-way point of the service-learning/internship project, are
you on schedule with the course calendar and are you on track for the due dates?
I am currently working with Deseret Industries in Twin Falls. I chose this organization for the
following reasons:
Provides an opportunity to serve within the community
Allows latitude to work in several areas which include receiving of goods and
warehouse operations
Enables opportunity to see how the LDS Church manages a portion of its effort
to help those who are in some way disadvantaged
Gives a chance to interact with a number of men who reside in the refugee center
Allows the ability to create a quality essay which will help tell a real time human
story which goes beyond what we typically see in the media
I am on schedule and continue to work Tuesday and Thursday each week in order to obtain the
goal of 20+ hours for the assignment. I plant to complete the project by March 25th.
My biggest challenge is getting the project done amongst competing assignments and time
constraints. This is in no way a show stopper; it simply is a management issue which I am
addressing.
The most rewarding aspect of the project has been the interaction I have enjoyed with a number
of the refugees. I have met five interesting fellows from the Sudan, Eatreia, Iraq, Oklahoma, and
young man who is local as well. The reward comes from learning their stories and gaining an
understanding of who they are and why they are here.
I have no concerns at the moment, and expect this project will culminate on time and too
standard.
