- Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry
uses words that are racist, such
as n****r or slave.
- White men and women do not
respect the black population like
they respect each other. For
example, they give the white
students high quality textbooks
and give the poor textbooks to
the black students.

to these things because it may
influence them to do harmful
things like in the book.

In the book,
there are many
violent incidents that
may have made people want to ban the book.

For example, on page 180, the text says


Tackling her with much force, I punched her in
the stomach and buttocks, twisted her hair,
jerked her face.
Another case of violence is on pages 148-149,
where Papa, one of the main characters,
recollects memories of how the black population
was molested, beaten to death, burned at stake,
and being enslaved, no matter what age.

How Could Violence Trigger Conflict?


For most people, acts of racism and
violence is too much for a small child to
handle, while reading a book. The
combination of violence and
discrimination in a book can be
overwhelming for any age. Middle
schools around America have
considered banning this book strictly
because of its violence against colored
races, and idea of white supremity.

Where Was This Book Banned?


When?
This book was banned in countless amounts of
schools, such as Lousiana Highschool, where it
was accused of racial bias, slurs, and
inappropriate use of language. Other schools
include - Middle school In California - racial epiteths 1998
-Middle school in Alabama - racial slurs - 2000
-Middle school in Florida - bad language - 2004
