Why Do We Use Teflon?

What is teflon? Teflon is a synthetic

fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, which
is known to be the most slippery source
known to man. It can be used as lubricant,
which decreases friction. It can also be used to
decrease energy used by machines, and slow
down the wearing of an object. It is known to
be discovered in the year of 1938, by Roy
Plunkett, accidently! There are many uses for
this lubricant, such as in pans and pots, and
other types of cookware. It can be especially
useful in situations where friction is not
needed. Did you know that teflon is used in
nail polish? It can also be used in hair
straightening or curling machines, along with
windshield wiper blades! It can decrease
friction, because of it slippery properties. For
example, it is used in nail polish, so the polish
doesnt wear off easily when applied on. It is
used to curling irons, preventing more heat and
breakage in hair follicles. As you can see,
teflon is useful in many things, whether for
reducing friction, or something else. Thanks
Roy Plunkett!
