Standards for Teachers

All teachers require technology skills in order to
enhance teaching strategies and student
learning.

Teachers need to adhere to the five standards

set by the International Society for Technology in
Education (ISTE).

ISTE Teacher Standard 1

Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching
and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences
that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation
in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

This course prepared me to meet this standard and its

sub-standards: a) Promote, support, and model
creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness, b)
Engage students in exploring real world issues and
solving authentic problems using digital tools and
resources.

ISTE Teacher Standard 1

Three ways in which I met this standard are:
Using a graphic organizer, I created a concept map on the
life of Abraham Lincoln. This served as a model for the
students to use when concept mapping.

In the interactive learning segment, I engaged students in

exploring the roles of authority figures, such as parents,
police officers, and the President. The students used
digital tools such as drag and drop to provide answers.

In the comic strip project, I modeled creative and

innovative thinking through showing students how their
ideas and the information they learn can come to life in a
fun way.

ISTE Teacher Standard 2

Design and develop digital age learning experiences
and assessments.
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic
learning experiences and assessments incorporating
contemporary tools and resources to maximize content
learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills,
and attitudes identified in the standards.

This course prepared me to meet this standard and its

sub-standards: a) Design or adapt relevant learning
experiences that incorporate digital tools, c) Customize
and personalize learning activities to address students
diverse learning styles, working strategies, and
abilities using digital tools and resources.

ISTE Teacher Standard 2

Three ways in which I met this standard are:
I designed an instructional PowerPoint presentation on
national American holidays that provided relevant
information, links to helpful resources, and questions to
answer.

When creating a WebQuest, I enabled students to

personalize their learning activities and to use digital
tools and resources to complete the project.

The creation of the concept map on President Lincoln

incorporated the use of digital tools and resources to
teach the lesson.

ISTE Teacher Standard 3

Model digital age work and learning
Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes
representative of an innovative professional in a global
and digital society.

This course prepared me to meet its standard and its

sub-standards: c) Communicate relevant information
and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers
using a variety of digital age media and formats, d)
Model and facilitate effective use of current and
emerging digital tools to analyze, evaluate, and use
information resources to support research and learning.

ISTE Teacher Standard 3

Three ways in which I have met this standard are:
During the lecture capture unit, I used Audioboom to
communicate information about how audio capture
technology can be used.

I used Screen-cast-omatic to provide instructions on

attaching a file to an email message. Students can
model my actions in order to attach files to their own
messages.

I recorded a video on YouTube to communicate how

Youtubes video editor can be used by students to
create and edit their own videos.

ISTE Teacher Standard 4

Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility.
Teachers understand local and global and societal issues
and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit
legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.

This course prepared me to meet this standard and its

sub-standards: a) Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal,
and ethical use of digital information and technology,
including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and
the appropriate documentation of sources, c) Promote and
model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions
related to the use of technology and information.

ISTE Teacher Standard 4

Three ways in which I have met this standard are:
In my Weebly portfolio, I modeled respect for copyright
and documentation of sources by providing links to
sources used for the projects at the bottom of each page.

In my WebQuest, PowerPoint presentation, and lesson

plans I provided links for students to follow for research
purposes in order to maintain a safe online experience
for the students.

On the Discussion Board, I engaged in responsible social

interactions with my peers and used the correct
etiquette.

ISTE Teacher Standard 5

Engage in professional growth and leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice,
model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school
and professional community by promoting and demonstrating
the effective use of digital tools and resources.
This course prepared me to meet this standard and its substandards: a. Participate in local and global learning
communities to explore creative applications of technology to
improve student learning. c. Evaluate and reflect on current
research and professional practice on a regular basis to make
effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and
resources in support of student learning.

ISTE Teacher Standard 5

Three ways in which I have met this standard are:
During the entirety of this course, I participated in a
learning community that explored technology and the
many creative ways that it can be used for student
learning.

The course enabled me to learn about and evaluate new

and existing digital tools that can be used in the classroom.

This course also enabled me to contribute to the promotion

of the teaching profession by instilling in me a desire to
explore the many creative and ingenious uses of
technology in the classroom.
