Tutorial Notes: Week 1

Key:

Keepy off (2 games)

-

Split students into FOUR even teams (2 w/bibs & 2 w/o bibs)
Pass the ball around the grid and try and keep the ball away from the
opponents
This is aimed at familiarising the students with the ball and understand the
concept of passing in touch rugby.

Partner Passing
-

Standing in TWO lines opposite your partner

Students will then all face the same direction and pass with between
themselves and their partner.
After a couple of mins, ask students to all face the other direction

This will allow students to practice the basic skill of passing on both sides, which
is important for touch rugby.

Tutorial Notes: Week 1

Partner Passing (Running)
-

Students will be in TWO lines opposite their partner

They will then continue to pass the ball between their partner as
previously done; however, this time they will be running with the ball.
This will begin to

3s Running
-

In groups of 3, run with the ball down the field.

The ball will be passed across the field (Left Mid Right)
Then coming back the other way, the ball will travel back in the opposite
direction (Right Mid Left)
This must be done by the time you reach the end of the grid.

3s Running
-

In groups of 3, run the ball down the field

Tutorial Notes: Week 1

-

The ball carrier (sender) must make sure they are in front of the receiver
before passing the ball.
Once the receiver catches the ball, they will SURGE (sprint) forward to

be in front of the next student.

Once the student with the ball is in front of the next receiver, they will

pass (send) the ball back to them who will then Surge forward
This will then be done in the opposite direction before reaching the end of
the grid.

Down the Line

-

Starting at the first cone, student 1 will pass the ball to their right towards
student two (receiver)
Continue down the line until student 4 receives the ball. Once student 4
receives the ball, they will then Surge forward and score a try.

Down the Line First to x tries

-

Exactly the same concept as the original Down the Line drill, except this
time use it as a competition.

Tutorial Notes: Week 1

-

Ready, Set, GO!

Have students pass the ball down the line, and which ever team scores the
