Ski Patrol Duties


General:
Trail names, closures (board updates on
open or closed), boundaries, and trail
work (tower pads, ropes, and signs.)
Dispatch:
Dispatch procedures, daily duties,
phone protocol, radio protocol, All-Call
procedures, ALS calls (advanced life
support), daily schedules, 10-50
procedures (accident procedures),
Highlands Bowl accidents, Call board,
daily snowfall report, trails report, and
grooming requests.

Sweeps:
AM Sweeps: Mid, Loge, Temerity,
Highlands Bowl.
PM Sweeps: Mid, Loge, Temerity,
Highlands Bowl, Supersweep.
Rig Running:
Cascade (the most frequently used rig),
Crystal (have bars on front and back of
rig), CPR Trailer (allows 4 to 5 people
on sled used for a more traumatic
accident).
Toboggan routes (safest approach for
downhill travels) and Rig locations
(knowing the location of the rigs at all
times).

Medical:
Medical Supplies, long back board
(back or neck injury), KED (sit up
backboard), Traction (realigning), Flag
Shoulder (splint for shoulder injury),
Major medical, Major trauma,
Assessment Skills, O2 Administration
(oxygen), Transport decisions
(ambulance, personal vehicle, bus,
etc.), ALS Equipment (advanced life
support equipment), Triage, Simulated
10-50 (exposed accident), and Dangler.

Snow Safety:
Protocols, Routes (avalanche
routes), explosive basics, and
Quick Pit (exposing snow pack
and various layers).

Rescue:
Missing Person, Strategic
Shoveling, Beacon, 2 Minute
Drill, Knots, Anchors, Up-haul,
and Toboggan Belay.

Lift Evacuation:
Cable riding, Comm Line (center
cables on lift, the communication
line), Ground Belay, Lift Evacuation
Manual, Incident Command System.
