ofaStoryline2project.Eachchapterofthestudyguideisastandalonefilesothattheclient
maymoreeasilymanagethematerialwhenimportedintotheirlearningmanagementsystem.
Thatfileisnowtobereferredtoasacoursecontainingthatchapterofinstruction.
ThedesignofeachcoursesitewasprovidedbytheclientintheformofaStoryline2
template.Eachcoursefollowsacommonnavigationalstructurelocatedatthebottomofeach
screen.Navigationbuttonsallowforareturntothemainmenu,thepausingofscreenanimations,
thereloadingofthecurrentslide,returningtothepreviousslide,andcontinuingontothenext
slide.AsstatedinourAnalysisReport,learnerswillbeaccessingtheinstructionalmaterialusing
iPads.Withthatinmind,navigationelementshavebeendesignedwiththeaveragelearnerin
mind.Iconsarelargeenoughforthelearnertotoucheasilyandaccurately.Allnavigational
elementsarelocatedinahorizontalstructureacrossthebottomofthescreen.
Eachcoursecontainsanintroductorysceneduringwhichthechaptertitleispresented
alongwithareviewofthenavigationalelementsandtheiractions.Afterreviewingthegoaland
objectivesforthecourse,amainmenuisprovidedwhichgivesthelearnerlimitedaccesstoeach
topicorganizedinalinearstructure.Theslidescoveringeachtopicareorganizedfollowingour
InstructionalStrategy.Preinstructionalslidesarepresentedfirsttointroducethetopicandlink
thenewmaterialtoexistingknowledge.Contentpresentationandlearningguidanceiscovered
overmanyslidesandofferamixofstatictext,animations,andpresentationofscenariosoffering
thelearneranopportunitytopracticetheskillspresented.Finally,practicequestionsand
followupwillbeincludedtoassistthelearnerineffectiveretentionofinstructionandtransferof
knowledgetoadditionaltopicsinthecourse.Auserhelpsectionwasnotneeded.
Inregardstoaccessibilityfeaturesincluded,eachtextbox,image,andanimationwillbe
providedwithalternativetextinordertoallowlearnersutilizingscreenreaderstogainaccessto
content.Thecontentwillnotincludeanyvideosotranscriptswillnotbeincluded.

Thetitlepageofeachchapterincludesthe
Terminixlogoingreentextonagrey
background.Agreenbaratthebottomofthe
screencontainsthetextservingasalinktobegin
thechapter.Elementsareanimatedinorderto
grabthelearnersattention.
Uponclickingthetexttobegin,thelearneris
presentedanexplanationofeachnavigation
buttonintheformofatooltipprovidingthe
explanatorytext.Note:Whentheelementisused
foranotherpurpose(e.g.returntostartofa
section),thetooltipappearswiththenew
instructions.
Theintroductionsectionconcludeswitha
presentationofthecoursegoalandobjectives
beforepresentingthelearnerwiththemain
menupage.
Whencontentneedstobecoveredinalinear
fashion,themainmenupagelimitsaccessto
topiccontentuntiltheprevioustopichasbeen
completed.Forexample,whenthelearnerhas
completedtheconclusionfortopicone,the
buttontocontinueleadsthemtotheMainMenu
wheretheynowfindtopictwounlocked.A
padlockiconisclearlyvisibleontopicsnotyet
unlocked.
Whentopicsdonotnecessarilybuilduponeach
other,lockedtopicsarenotusedandthelearner
maycompletethesectionsinanyorder.
Whenalltopicshavebeenmarkedcompleted,an
additionalsetofbuttonsappear.Theygivethe
learneraccesstorepeatthestudyquestionsin
preparationforthetest.Anotherallowsfora
scoredversionofthetest.Inonceinstance,as
shownhere,aTableofContentsisprovidedto
allowforreviewofcontent.

anintroductionfollowedbyslidesdrivenbythe
lessonstructuresetforthintheInstructional
Strategydocument:preinstructionalactivities,
contentpresentationandlearningguidance,
learnerparticipation,assessment,andfollowup.

oneatatimeandataslowenoughpacetoallow
forcognitiveprocessing.Timingwasalso
appliedtotheNEXTbuttontomakesurethe
learnerremainedontheslideforareasonable
amountoftimeanddidnotjustclickthroughthe
content.
