2 Go around the circle, having students guess the name of the friend
sitting next to them.
1 That was pretty easy, wasnt it?
2 What if it was a little harder?
3 Optional: Allow students to go around the circle guessing your actual
name. Telling students you will tell them only if they get it right.

3 Guided Practice: (5 minutes)
1 Ask students to think/pair/share and retell the story to a friend. (2
minutes at most)
2 Regain whole group attention and ask the students what they would
have given Rumpelstiltskin in return for spinning gold.
1 Write their responses on the board.
4 Independent Practice (15 minutes)
1 Tell students that they did a great job using their brains and now it is
time for them to use their bodies.
2 Teach the students at least one Rumpelstiltskin song.
1 To the tune of A Bear Went Over the Mountain
1 Who gave help to the poor girl, who gave help to the poor
girl, who gave help to the poor girl, his name starts with R.
3 Allow the students to make up motions for the lyrics.
4 Optional: Introduce a second Rumpelstiltskin song.
1 Google offers a variety, choose one relevant and well suited to
the individual class.
5 Tell students that they are going to play a musical version of Duck,
Duck, Goose.
6 With students sitting in a circle, model the game.
1 Whoever is it will walk around the circle, patting each student
on the head, singing their first name.
2 If it taps you on the head and sings Rumpelstiltskin, you go
to the center of the circle and do a little jig while singing,
Rumpelstiltskin is my name!
5 Closure: (1 minute)
1 Have students line up at the door one by one, after singing their
name and saying what they would give Rumpelstiltskin to pay
him, when their name is called.
