PointandShoot

holdsitateyelevelandtakesthepicture.Themodernoneshaveascreentoseewhatthe

everythingatonceforanoblurpicture.

DSLR
DSLRisadigitalcameracombiningtheopticsandthemechanismsofasinglelens
reflexcamerawithadigitalimagingsensor,asopposedtophotographicfilm.Thereflexdesign

Simplicity
Thisisthemostimportantaspectofphotography.Onewaytogivesimplicityistohave
uncomplicatedbackgrounds.Theobjectoffocusshouldbeclearlyseen,andevidentthatitis
thefocusofthephoto.

HorizonLine
Horizonline/eyelevelrefertoaphysical/visualboundarywhereskyseparatesfromland
orwater.Itistheactualheightoftheviewer'seyeswhenlookingatanobject,interiorscene,or
anexteriorscene.

Framing
Framingprimarilyconcernedwiththepositionandperspectiveoftheviewer.The
positionoftheobserverhastremendousimpactontheirperceptionofthemainsubject,bothin
termsofaestheticsandintheirinterpretationofitsmeaning.

RuleofThirds
Ruleofthirdsisappliedbyaligningasubjectwiththeguidelineandtheirintersection
point,placingthehorizononthetoporbottomline,orallowinglinearfeaturesintheimageto
flowfromsectiontosection.

Balance
Allyouhavetodoisframetheshotsothatoneormoreidenticalorsimilarsubjectsare
repeatedsymmetricaloneachsidesofagivenpoint.Othertimesthephotoneedsasecondary
pointofinterestcounterbalancingthemainfocalpointofanimageandprovidingthoseempty
spotswithalittleweight.

Curves
Curvescanphysicallyexistandbetangibleinanimageortheycanbeimplied.
Examplesofcurvesthataretangibleincludepathways,railwayline,andtimelapsephotos,
morespecificallycars.
Curvesmakeanimageeasytolookatbyleadingtheviewerseye
throughtheframe.Itisalmostasifthephotographertakestheviewerbythehand,drawsthem
intothelandscape,andpointstheway.Theviewerseyesarecompelledtofollowtheline.

GeometricShapes
Whencomposinganimage,theadditionofgeometricpatternsorbasicshapessuchas
lines,circles,squaresandtrianglescanaddstructureandorganizationwithinthatphotograph.It
canhelpthephotographerconveyanideaorfeelingtotheviewer.Theoverallpurposeofthisis
simple,tokeeptheviewer'seyewithintheframeoftheimage.

Merger
Mergersarecreatedwhenkeypartsofthemainsubjectsoverlapeachother,touch
anotherkeyelement,ortouchthesidesoftheframe.Examplesofthisincludezebrasmerging
intoeachotherandmultiplebuildingsappearingtobeoneuniformstructure.

3.RembrandtLighting

Rembrandtlightingthesubjectmustturnslightlyawayfromthelightandthelight
mustbeabovethetopoftheirheadsothattheshadowfromtheirnosefallsdownon
thecheek.
4.ButterflyLighting

Butterflylightinghasthemainlightsourceaboveanddirectlybehindthecamera.

5.BroadLighting(HighKey)

Broadlightinghasthesubjectsfaceisslightlyturnedawayfromcameraandthe
