RESUME AND WHY
IS IT IMPORTANT?
A resume is a summary of background,
skills and qualifications, which is sent to
employers for review.
Serves as your first impression to the
employer
A well-written resume shows the
employer your professionalism and
improves your chances of receiving an
interview.
This is your chance to brag on yourself for
your accomplishments

Its not just what you are able to do, but how
well you can do the job being pursued

Did you know that on average an employer
or Recruiter takes only 8-10 seconds to screen
your Resume and Job Application Cover Letter
before considering an applicant to be called
for an interview? The writing in your resume
should be brief and to the point!
Your Professional Resume needs to be
factually accurate, including dates of
employment, education completed, job titles,
and skills possessed in each role
demonstrating your growth as a professional
in each individual role
Use of proper grammar, spelling, and
punctuation is a must

OBJECTIVE
oYour objective should be the reason you are submitting the resume. It
is so much more than just writing, Hey, hire me. Im super
awesome.
oYour objective is carefully researched and tailored to fit the job youre
applying for.
oExamples:
oSeeking a position as a cashier at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store where I can
use my communication skills
oI am seeking a summer internship at Mylan Pharmaceuticals where I can use my
organizational skills
oA dedicated and hardworking student who would benefit from receiving the

oList them in descending order (present to past)
REFERENCES
oChoose people who will say positive things on your
behalf. These can include teachers, neighbors,
previous employers, etc.
