Reflective Writing & Guidelines For Short

Assignment
The genre I choose for the first short essay was an open letter. I choose
this genre because it was the perfect length and I had more room for
creativity. For me it was an obvious choice to write an open letter to Salt Lake
community College.
The chosen audience that I hope read this would be my friends and
anyone that is going to college. The open letter is based around issues that I
have and might have in common with other college students. The irony
embedded in my open letter is specifically for college students to relate too.
The way I would get this across my audience would be Facebook. What
better way to put this to a public audience, my Facebook are mainly all
college friends or soon to be college students so that would be the best way
to publish this to my main audience. The guidelines for an open letter were
all similar. It takes the structure of a letter, its addressed to someone or
something, and Its no longer than 1 page long. As far as the guidelines I
followed them closely as I treated it as a letter, kept it to one page, and
addressed it to SLCC.

While I was considering genres for the short essay assignment I always
had my audience on my mind. All this college stuff was new to me. I was
fresh out of high school so I wanted to write a comical open letter. I wanted
to include the struggles of college and the benefits it gives you. I think many
people can agree with the things I say in the open letter and may give them
a little laugh.
