Semester Reflection
English 150 is a course for students to develop the skill and talent of exploring
environment, which, as an international student, actually is an essential and fundamental class for
me to learn English. I am pretty sure that I quickly become know how to write an essay with
college rules, how to do a good presentation and learn how to cooperate with other classmates
from the study of this course so I personally believe English 150 taught me a lot and I am glad I
have this course this semester.
Throughout the class, what delighted me most is I think I have learnt a lot about writing
and analysis. For me, as an international student who only took English 101C in Iowa State
University, I barely knew the rules of writing and analysis. However, after doing 6 reading
journals I feel much better to analyze one essay because each questions given us is one thought
of understanding the essay. 6 practices taught me how to read and understand. Whats more, I
also learnt MLA citation. It is a significant part in one because an essay using ideas from a
source that are not your own without acknowledgment will be regard as plagiarism, and also I
knew what kind of information source should be cited or not. I believe these knowledge will help
me the four years in ISU.
Moreover, during the course, I found that presentation among teacher and classmates can
be an awesome experience. In assignment 5 presentation, it is a chance that allows me can

demonstrates my opinions with others, which made we could exchange ideas and forming
questions as feedback. No matter the presentation is perfect or not, it still not only brought the
feeling of confidence and achievement but also taught me the skill of expression and
organization of one foreign language.
Last, I enjoyed communication with teacher and other classmates as a cooperation. On
one hand, in the two conferences, I always could find some point to improve to get a grade, and
also exchanging opinion about classes or assignments helps a lot to the learning of this course.
On the other hand, working together with classmates is also one way to express personal ideas
and emotion. We did peer evaluation, peer analysis and discussion leading which taught me to be
positive about receiving others comments. Sometimes the feedback will not match certain
personal beliefs but it is good to reflect on what others think since those comments may come in
handy in the future.
Overall, after finishing with this course, I feel that I gained a variety of study skills that
will be helpful in other classes in future. In addition, all the feedback that I got from teacher and
peers will help me focus on the areas that I need to improve. Before the course, it seemed that the
workload was a lot, but now I understand how helpful it was to put most of my ideas in written
assignments. Therefore, after this course and overall semester, I feel more prepared to continue
in the rest of this wonderful learning experience in ISU.
