NAEYC Standard 1: Promoting Child Development & Learning

WTS 2: Teachers know how children grow.

WTS 3: Teachers understand the children learn differently.
Following is an observation of a newborn. This observation was done in my Infant
and Toddler Development class. After the observation, I had a more thorough
understanding of the behavior of a newborn child.
I chose to place this Newborn observation in the category of Child Grow &
Development because it states what characteristics and needs of children at birth.
This standard relates to NAEYC Standard 1 and Wisconsin Teaching standard #2 and
#3. These standards describe the teachers responsibilities. 1) Promoting Child
Development & Learning. 2) Teachers know that children learn differently and that
teachers understand the characteristics of children at birth.
I learned what behaviors a new born child has. This will help me grow as a teacher
because I will understand what developmental characteristics are to be observed
with a new born child. This will also help me to create lesson plans to help
strengthen those muscles that the child is developing. I also learned that it is very
important to support the child head because they are still developing those muscles
and learning to control their head.
