NAEYC Standard 4: Teaching and Learning

WTS: 1: Teachers know the subjects they are teaching.

WTS 3: Teachers understand that children learn differently.
WTS 4: Teachers know how to teach.
The following is an example of a curriculum project that I made in my Curriculum
Planning class. This project consists of a curriculum web, weekly block plan, block
plan for the environment, transition web and lesson plans focused on one theme.
I chose to put this curriculum project in the section of Category 3 Teaching &
Learning (Developmentally Appropriate Activities) since this project states how I
would teach this theme to the children and the different methods I would use.
This project relates to NAEYC standard 4 and Wisconsin Teaching standards 1,3 and
4, These standards describe the teachers responsibilities in creating a
developmentally appropriate curriculum and know what types of materials are
appropriate for children to stimulate learning.
From this project I learned how to take a theme and to make lesson plans that are
developmentally appropriate. This project gave me some great ideas on how I can
get the children back on track when they have a hard time listening. In the future I
plan on using some of the techniques that I learned while doing this project. I also
learned that it is important to create lesson plans that the children are excited
about. This makes learning fun for them and enjoyable. This is also great way to be
creative when developing lesson plans for the future.
