Anticipatory Set

Read three different pieces of text : A Brief History of the


Internet, Get Wiki Wise, Staying in Touch all the Time, which
are on the same topic. Underline or circle any unknown words
(to consult later). Make a Venn diagram showing the
relationship between the three texts.

Objectives/Purp
ose

Students will make connections to various text that is about the


same subject and be able to speak or write knowledgably on
the subject.

Instructional
Input

Explain to students what credible sources are and why it is


important to use credible sources, and tell students how using
more than one credible source fosters critical thinking

Modeling

Place students in small groups of 4-5. Have students talk about


the significance of reading various pieces of text on the same
subject to get information from.

Checking for
Understanding

Call on students to ask questions about the lesson.


1. What topic are the three source about?
2. What did you learn in one source that was not in the
others?
3. Based on the information for the three text, what do the
authors of source 1, 2, and source 3 both agree on?
4. Did any source use some of the same words?

Guided Practice

Stop the class and ask volunteers to share some things all
three sources had in common, or what was conflicting in all
three sources. Choose students to share any words that they
were not familiar with, and give the definition.

Independent
Practice

Homework. Find three text on the same subject and make a


thinking map showing similar and different facts that the
subjects have in common. Students will present their work to
the class.
