Dear Senior Exploration Judges:
My name is Loren Benton, I am eighteen years old and a current senior at St. James High
School. For the past four years I am fortunate to say I have been a student at St. James acquiring
the start of my education, which is essential to my future as a Physician's Assistant. The courses
and staff of St. James have prepared me to further my education to the college level, and without
great support I wouldnt be able to fulfill my dreams. As I get closer to graduation, I am eager to
face the Real World as an adult.
My motivation for selecting the topic of ocean pollution has to do with how close I live to the
beach and how much I enjoy it. It is very important to me that the ocean is kept clean for my own
health and safety. My Senior Exploration research has educated me on how ocean pollution
starts, and what diseases and illnesses are contracted. For future reference, I now understand how
to prevent ocean pollution from occurring by recycling and making others aware of the issue and
its dangers.
The process of the Senior Exploration was alluring and valuable. Working hands on with
preventing pollution from reaching the ocean made me feel accomplished. Nothing in life comes
without challenges and I definitely faced a few during Senior Exploration. The most difficult part
of my Senior Exploration was selecting a research topic, I began to lose faith in my ability to
pursue any topic. Despite the challenges, once I chose ocean pollution as my topic my negativity
was set aside. My overall experience with Senior Exploration allowed me to learn about a topic
at my own interest.
I would like to thank you for taking your time to allow me to educate you about ocean pollution.
Sincerely,
Loren Benton
