"Aerospace Metal Distributor." ASM Aerospace Specification Metals, Inc. N.p., n.d. Web.
03 Apr. 2016.

Aerospace Metal Distributor (ASM) provides materials to the aerospace industry. This
website contains highly detailed technical data for most metals used in industry. The information
contained within this website is available to engineers for input into design parameters.
This website was instrumental in providing essential technical data of aluminum alloy
7075-T6 and steel alloy 4140. Material data were input into an engineering calculator to
determine correct interference tolerances, fitting temperatures and Safety Factor of Yield values.
This source is credible because material specifications are published as references
volumes and provided to the aerospace industry. Data are provided by industry leaders and
associations such as The Aluminum Association, Inc.

Bookstaber, David. "Home." Ballistipedia.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Apr. 2016.

This website focuses on measurement of precision and accuracy from a statistical

perspective. Topics discussed are precision units of linear distance and angular size, variant and
invariant target measures, dispersion measures about the center of impact, and a comparative
summary of what measure is best suited to an application. The website is targeted to marksmen
of all skill level. Deeper understanding of the topics presented assumes a working knowledge of
statistics.
I found this source to be the most definitive source of applying statistical measures to
marksmanship. The work is clear, concise and objective. Each method of statistical measure
presented is clearly analyzed in a objective, scientific manner.
I know this is a credible source because I contacted the website author. I confirmed the
author is a statistician who previously worked for the Air Force Research Lab. The information
presented in the website was co-authored by several applied-mathematicians and peer-reviewed
by Charlie McMillan, Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

FM 7-22.9 RIFLE MARKSMANSHIP, M16-/M4-SERIES WEAPONS." (n.d.): n. pag. Official

Department of the Army Publications and Forms. Headquarters, Department of the Army,
12 Aug. 2008. Web. 3 Apr. 2016.

FM 3-22.9 is a field manual published by the Headquarters, Department of the Army.

This publication defines guidance in implementing the Armys marksmanship training program.
Topics covered include: marksmanship training, weapons and ammunition characteristics,
training of the force in basic and advanced marksmanship techniques and basic to advanced
sighting systems.
This resource provides all of the baseline information regarding marksmanship and Army
service rifles and carbines. The Army marksmanship program is built around the statistical
capabilities of the rifle, shooter, ammunition and environmental parameters. This source teaches
how to achieve results expected of Army personnel using issued equipment.
I know this is a credible source because the Army issues this guidance to build doctrine
that the Army uses to fight and win the Nations wars. Much research, both theoretical and
practical goes into creating this publication. It is continually updated to keep current with
operating force best practices.

"MIL-C-71186(AR) MILITARY SPECIFICATION CARBINE, 5.56MM: M4A1." (31 January

1994): Biggerhammer.net. United States Army, 4 Mar. 2003. Web. 3 Apr. 2016.

MIL-C-71186 (AR) defines the requirements, examinations and testing of M4A1

Carbines for the Army. This a joint, multi-agency publication used id validating contract
procurements for the United States Government. Topics covered include manufacturing
specifications and requirements, testing requirements and testing methodology and delivery
inspection and quality control procedures.
This is the source document that the United States Government issues to military arms
contractors and inspectors. The requirements of an individual carbine and production lot are
clearly defined and referenced to all other documents supporting military specification. The most
valuable part of this document concerns rifle testing procedures and acceptance requirements.
This document helped me design the experiment I used to test my hypothesis.
This source is credible because it is the authoritative document detailing how contractors
are to deliver the final product. The United States Government provides a similar document for
all good produced for government contract. This process is governed by law.

Oberg, Erik, and Christopher J. McCauley. Machinery's Handbook: A Reference Book for the
Mechanical Engineer, Designer, Manufacturing Engineer, Draftsman, Toolmaker, and
Machinist. New York: Industrial Press, 2012. Print.

This book is an authoritative guide on manufacturing and engineering practices and

standards. This is highly technical book covering a wide variety of topics in metalworking and
engineering design.
I could only reference this text from third-party sources until I could get a hardcopy from
the library. The information in this book is essential to determine correct shrink-fit tolerences
needed to modify test carbines for my study.
This book is widely regarded as an authoritative publication in the subject of
metalworking. Three online calculators I found referenced this publication. This is the 29th
edition, published in 2012.
