Manyofuscanprobablyrecallourfirstjob.Wewereteenagerswhoneeded
moneyourparentsdidntwanttogiveus.Ourhardearnedmoneywasputtowards
thingsrangingfromgasforourcarstonewpairsofoverpricedheadphones.Asa
teenager,manyusdidntfullyunderstandthevalueofmoney.Assomegotolderand
joinedtheworkforce,theyrealizedthevastamountofdisposableincometheywere
previouslymakingturnednearlymicroscopicwhentheystartedtotryandmakealiving
forthemselves.Manypeoplehavethesametypeofjobstheyhadwhentheywere
teenagers.Theproblemisthattheyarestillmakingthe
same
amountofmoneyasthey
werewhentheywereteenagers.Thejobstheyworkatdonotprovideanadequate
incomeforthemtoprovideforthemselves.Theminimumwageshouldberaisedto
allowthoseatthebottomtomakeadecentlivingforthemselvesandtheirfamilies.
Peoplewhoareworkingfortyhourweeksshouldbeabletomakeaselfsustaining
income.Itsgreattosaythateveryonehaspotentialtobegreatandsuccessful,butlife
happensandnoteveryonegetstoachievetheirgoals.Noteveryonecanbedoctorsor
lawyers.Thosewhoworklessprestigiousjobsshouldnotbepunishedbylivingbelow

increaseinwage.Thecompaniescanliterallyjustrunawayfromtheirproblems.
Someliketosaythatapossibleoptionfortheminimumwageproblemisntto
raisethewage,butforpeoplethemselvestoraisetheirownwagebygettingahigher
education.Theargumentinitselfisuneducated.Thepercentageoflowwageworkers
withcollegeeducationis43.2percenttoday(huffingtonpost.com).Sometimes,things

dontworkout.Thosewhodropoutofcollegeshouldnothavetoliveinpovertyfora
personallifedecision.
Theminimumwageiscurrentlyamajorsubjectofdebate.Bothsidesofthe
argumenthavegoodreasonfortheirposition.Thatbeingsaid,peoplewhoareworking
hardshouldberewardedformakingapositivecontributiontosocietynotpunishedfor
theirlackofintellect,familywealth,orpersonalcareerpursuits.ThefrycookatBurger
Kingwhosworkingdayandnighttosupporttheirfamilyshouldbeabletoeffectivelydo
so.
