The home crowd is cheering and it gets Jonathans adrenaline pumping as he is now
serving for the third set in the final of the inter-school badminton tournament. He is
playing against Dev Anand, the top athlete from SMK Dato Idris. The score is now
tied at 20-20.
Jonathan was 11 when he first picked up badminton as his favourite sport.
Since then, he has been coached by his older brother who is a fan of the game too.
Jonathan hoped to emulate his hero, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, who managed to secure a
silver medal in the recent 2012 Olympics for the Mens Single category.
Under his brother coaching, Jonathan managed to win several local
tournaments and was soon picked to join the school team. Having heard of how good
his rival was, Jonathan was even more determined to win the trophy for his school for
the first time after having lost to SMK Dato Idris for three years consecutively. Thus,
Jonathan trained for hours each day without complaint even though sometimes he felt
very tired. He always bounced back after suffering ay injury with a new will to win
every match he took part in. Sometimes, he lost to his opponents but it never
dampened his sprit to fight back and his dream to become champion.
Here he is now, in the SMK Taman Rimbas indoor court, just a point away
from bringing home the trophy. Jonathan makes a quick serve and gets into position to
play the most important match of his life so far.
