Band Observation:
Band went very well today, I felt very confident about it. I started at exactly
7:30 even though only half of the band was there. I gave very clear directions with a
projected voice. We started warm ups: 1, 2 (3), 4. I had them tap the beat with their
hands and echo the rhythm with me. This was very effective because they could
feel the steady beat. I then showed them a visual of the rhythm and had them play
it on every note up the scale and back down. I could have spent more time on the
warm up but I wasnt listening all the way because I was nervous, it was hard for me
to think on the spot. This needs more practice, in the meantime it is good to have a
lesson plan with specific areas in the music to work on, to follow. I worked on
sections of the band and ran the song, Caisson Song. I also assigned HW.

I could give more compliments, dont wait to the very end to say good
rehearsal
Good identifying sections that needed work in the Caisson Song

3rd Grade
I spent half the class outside talking with a student who was frustrated with
the noise
We talked for a while about home life and class
I encouraged her by saying things like, you were doing the right thing, thank
you for being quiet and singing! Your class is loud, but its not your fault,
youre not the only one frustrated with the noise
She said that she didnt get her morning meal and didnt get recess because
she had to stay in to finish work, this was also upsetting her
I felt like it was a successful talk, I took the time to care for a student at a
personal level. I feel like I got through to her, and she was able to go back in
and join the very end of class.
On the way out, I gave her a high 5 and compliment
