Misery! happiness is to be found by its

side! Happiness! misery lurks beneath it!
Page 268-269

It shows that things get better, but things can

also get worse. When youre the happiest
youve ever been, you cant stay on that
happy high forever. It will end soon; but the
same goes for misery. Just keep pushing
through and your circumstance will change.
Its just life.

Expressing Happiness Is Bad for You and

Others 1st Paragraph Pages 272-273

Its hard to contain happiness when you feel

it. I dont think its a bad thing to express
happiness and Im not entirely sure how
others could take it negatively.

the Japanese participants frequently

mentioned negative social consequences of
expressing happiness, such as arousing
others envy Page 273

I feel as if people would stop worrying about

other peoples happiness and focus on their
own, then there wouldnt be as much envy
and anger towards others. When they
became comfortable with this, then they could
go and create their own happiness instead of
standing back and being envious of others.

some people fear extreme happiness

because you fear that God is going to single
you out and make you die because things
are going too well. Page 274

God is loving and wants you to be happy. The

reason people feel this way is because life
has its ups and downs, and if youre up then
you have to come down eventually.

-that the direct pursuit of happiness is likely

to lead to unhappiness Page 275

I agree with this because if youre constantly

seeking happiness that has to be obtained,
youll never find happiness in the journey.
Youll keep wanting more and more things to
make you happy, yet youll never be satisfied
with what you have.
