‘To whom it may concern:
My name is Sheri Fitzgerald and I am commending student teacher Alyssa Jackson for
successfully completing the graduate program in Secondary Education at Chaminade University
of Honolulu. Itis with excitement that I have been able to witness Alyssa’s growth for the
student teaching practicum this spring 2016 semester. As her university supervisor I can attest to
the commitment and enthusiasm that she upholds. Alyssa has been a professional, caring,
compassionate, and highly organized teacher of science at St. Louis School, in Honolulu,
Hawai'i. She has also been fortunate to have a supportive mentor and cooperating teacher, Mr.
Dwayne Yamaguchi, for this practicum.
‘Asa practicing science teacher at the high school level, Alyssa has afforded her students rich,
relevant, and rigorous experiences, Throughout the weeks in the semester, she carried herself in
1 professional manner, being diligent, organized, and very competent with respect to planning,
teaching, assessing, and reflecting upon her practices. Alyssa’s lessons revealed an in-depth
knowledge of the content area of chemistry, which was accessible and understandable to all
levels of students, and made challenging enough for the honors students in one class period
which she taught. She had the opportunity to teach several class periods of general chemistry in
addition to honors chemistry, and differentiated her lessons to accommodate all students. As her
university supervisor, I observed her unbiased approach to supporting students at all academic
levels. She always made the effort to assist students in class, during the lunch breaks, and after
school. She has also reached out to parents when students fell behind and needed extra help to
get assignments done,
‘Alyssa was always prepared for class, and her unit of study on acids and bases seamlessly
integrated social studies with chemistry, whereby students were prompted to think about how.
chemicals and human practices have impacted the environment over time. Moreover, she
supported students with conducting relevant and current research to address problems such as.
acid rain and global climate change. For the final week of her solo teaching period, Alyssa
invited her former Chaminade University professor from the forensic science division to the
