Session Focus
To record bass part ideas on all 5 album tracks, which will later be sent to the
double bassist (Alfie) as reference material. From these ideas he'll be able to
record the bass parts in his own time and send the over-dubbed (bass) folders
back.
To over-dub all tracks with flute instrumentation.

Research into Recording the Flute


The fundamental range of the flute extends from B3 to around C7 247 Hz to 2100
Hz Find a mic that will cater for capturing this frequency range.
When miking a flute, placement is dependent upon the style of music and the room's
overall acoustics. When modern musical styles are concerned e.g UK Garage, the mic
can be placed on-axis and slightly above the player at a distance of between 6'' 2'',

and the mic should be positioned at a central point between the mouthpiece and the
instrument's foot-piece (see fig 2).

Chosen Mic
An AKG C414 has been chosen to record the flute with in a 'figure of eight' polar
pattern.
