The book discusses the differences between euphemisms, which are used in order
to mitigate the meaning, and dysphemisms, which are used in order to offend people. It
also covers the range of used euphemisms in the language and their functions. I found
this book using the search engine in CSUN Oviatt Library and then went to the library to
take it, as it was not available on the site. I was looking for "the role of euphemisms" in
our everyday life and the functions of language in our life. This is a book published by
Oxford University Press, therefore, it is trustworthy. This book will be helpful for my
essay, because it dwells on the differences of language used in our speech. I will see the
clear distinction between euphemisms, standard language, and offensive expressions.

provides a vast analysis of different aspects of euphemisms, which can be seen in the
content of the book. It will be very helpful for me as it will provide the basis for the
research on euphemisms and will help to look at the euphemisms in the context of
freedom of speech in the society.
