ButwhenItakeofficenextJanuary,myvoiceandvetoalonewontbeenoughtoturnourstatearound.
Imgoingtoneedboldnewlegislatorsstandingbehindme,readytotakeaction.
IllneedlegislatorslikeSusanEvans,whoisrunninginoneofthestatestopswingseats.
Susangrewupwithmodestmeans,attendedNorthCarolinapublicschools,andgraduatedfrommy
almamaterUNCChapelHillasthefirstinherfamilytoearnacollegedegree.Susanunderstands
thevalueofpubliceducationforourpeopleandoureconomybecauseshehaslivedit.
Unfortunately,ourgovernorandGeneralAssemblyhaverenegedonNorthCarolinascommitmentto
educationoverthelastfewyears.Theyhaveslashedperpupilspendingtoalowerlevelthanalmost
anyotherstate.Teachersaremakinglessinrealdollarsthantheydidtenyearsago$10,000lessthan
thenationalaverage.Tuitionandstudentdebtcontinuetorise.Andweareoneofonlyninestateswhich
cutPreKspendingthisyear.
Susangetsthismorethanmost.AsamemberoftheWakeCountySchoolBoardthelastfouranda
halfyears,shehasfelttheimpactsofthestatesbudgetcutsfirsthand.
SusanwillgotobatforeducationintheNCSenate.Shewillgotobatforyouandme.NowIneedyou
togotobatforher.
