The Dihybrid Cross lab

The goal of this lab was to test and predict the outcome of a dihybrid
cross. The Dependant variable in this lab was the allele being shown
while the independent variable was the number of times rolled. A
constant shown was the alleles/traits that were being shown and
never actually changing. My hypothesis was that if we use the
genotypes of parents to make offspring, then I believe that round and
yellow seeds will appear more than any other pair of alleles.

The materials used in the lab included: A cup, four coins labeled with
either a Y/y on one coin and R/r on the other( representing the alleles
for offspring.) With these materials, the next was to now put the coin's
in the cup, give it a little shake and pour them out onto a table and
depending on what side the coin landed, showing the alleles that
would represent the genotype of offspring, giving us the trait of that
seed. This process was repeated until it has been completed 48
times, while tallying our alleles given and which category they were
then classified under.

After completing this 48 Times, The overall count was that out of 48
rolls, 23 were rough, yellow seeds ,11 were rough, green seeds, 10
were smooth, yellow seeds and 4 ended up being smooth, green
seeds. Comparing this to the predictive/expected offspring we were
off by 4 in the rough, yellow seed section, 2 for the rough and green
seeds ,one for the smooth, yellow seeds and again one off for the
smooth green seeds. The group data was overall fairly correct with
only varying in one or two more or less genotypes per section.
However, the class phenotypic results were closer than ours but only
by a small differential especially being rough, yellow seed section.

So, in conclusion after trying to see and test the outcome of a

dihybrid cross and coming up with a hypothesis that rough, yellow
seeds would appear more than any others, we then rolled 48 times to
see various outcomes and after then being able to prove my
hypothesis correct. My hypothesis ended up being correct due to the
alleles having more ways of it being a rough, yellow seed more than
any other. A more effective way that could help in the future would be
multiple people rolling the alleles to hit 48 times faster that way

minimal time is wasted, but other than that no other factors skewed or
biased any part in this lab.
