of smell

O Moose like to live in marshy wetlands where

O They can travel great distances and over
almost all kinds of terrain.
O Moose can be found almost everywhere in
Canada.
O Not known to live around coastal BC or on
Vancouver Island.
O Live in Boreal Forest, edge of the Tundra,
and parts of Temperate Forest biomes.

Ecosystem Elements:
Abiotic:

Biotic:

O Water: moose love to

O Aquatic Plants: moose

swim and cool off in

lakes.
O Climate: moose dont
like to being hot and
prefer cooler climates
and forested areas.
O Rocks: moose have large
hooves and long legs
that help them easily
navigate rocky terrain.

are great swimmers and

like to dive for food.
O Trees: not only do moose
like to eat branches from
certain trees, trees also
provide shade to help
protect the moose.
O Bears: appreciate a
moose feast as they are
so big!

Mmmmm, Hungry
O Moose are herbivores

(that means they only eat

plants)

delicious and tender meat. Moose

steak is delightful.

are large enough to make for
multiple meals.

moose is able to feed lots of wolves
in the pack.

Limiting Moose Populations:

O Predators: with increasing wolf populations in many parts of

North America, as their need for more food increases the

moose population will decrease as they are a primary food
source for wolves.
O Global Warming: increasing temperatures leads to less
marshy and lake covered land through Boreal forest biomes.
This will force moose populations to search for new areas to
live and damage their existing food sources.
O Pesticides and Pollutants: pesticides are sprayed on trees
and crops which could be eaten by a moose or get into the
water shed, thus affecting the plants and vegetation that a
moose eats as well. Pollutants could also make their way
into the water shed and affect vegetation the moose would
eat. Either of these could make a moose very ill and
potentially die.
