GENERAL INFOMATION
Ferrite content measuring methods of austenitic stainless steel weld metal
Ferrite Indicator

To measure ferrite content by comparing to the magnetic attraction of


the standard specimen and the test specimen.

Ferrite Scope

To measure ferrite content by using the magnetic induction in the test


specimen.

Magnetic Gauge

To measure ferrite content by using the force of spring that balances to


the magnetic attraction between the permanent magnet and the test
specimen.

To measure ferrite content by calculating Ni equivalent and Cr


equivalent from chemical compositions of the test specimen and using
the diagrams.
There are fhree different diagrams; Schaefflers diagram, Delongs
diagram and WRC diagram. See figure 1,2 and 3

Point Counting
Method

To measure ferrite content by calculating the area percentage of the


ferrite in micro - structure.

SYMBOLS FOR WELDING AND INSPECTION


STANDARD SYMBOLS are used universally to indicate desired welding and brazing information
on engineering drawing. They convey the design requirements to the shop in a concise manner.
A welding symbol, for example, can be used to specify the type of weld, groove design, weld size,
welding process, face and root contours, sequence of operations, length of weld, and other
information. However, there are cases where all information cannot be conveyed by a symbol
alone. Supplementary notes or dimensional details, or both, are sometimes required to provide
the shop with complete requirements. The designer must be sure that the requirements are fully
presented on the drawing or specifications.
The complete system of symbols is described in ANSI/AWS A2.4, Standard Symbols for Welding,
Brazing, and Nondestructive Examination, latest edition, published by the American Welding
Society. This publication should be referred to when actually selecting the appropriate symbols
for describing the desired joining and the inspection requirements. In practice, most designers will
use only a few of the many available symbols. The information presented here describes the
fundamentals of the symbols and how to apply them.

have been deleted. Properties and chemical compositions of deposits can change depending on
your specific welding conditions. No attempt has been made to recommend welding procedures
